There are four PDI league competitions each season which are run on different dates Up to two images can be entered for each PDI league competition. Images entered for the PDI league competition cannot have been used in previous PDI league competitions. Themed PDI challeng competitions are often run on the same evening and up to two images can also be entered in those competitions. All images entered on any one evening must be different. Members must email a PDI copy of each entered image to the Competition Secretary by midnight on the Sunday preceding the competition.

An entry fee of £1 per class or competition entered must be paid on the evening unless entrants have paid the £12 in advance to cover entries to all competitions.

Images are shown in reandom order with the titles read out. The author is not identified to the judge and feedback, sometimes brief, is given for all images.

Marks are given out of 10 for each image in all competitions. The themed competitions are also given marks out of 10 and the best images are awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd places with optional 'Highly Commended'. If there are time pressures, judging of a class may be postponed to a later date.

At the end of the season, the winner of the PDI League is the photographer with the highest points from all prints they submitted to league competitions over the season. The points from the best four Colour and best four Monochrome entries from each entrant are also counted. The winners in each field will have the highest total points.
