One of the purposes of the Challenges is for members to use the themes to inspire them to go out and take new images that fit these themes.
Starting this season, only ONE image per person will be allowed for the PDI challenges – TWO will still be allowed for print challenges.
This year will be be reviewing images before the competitions to ensure that they do fit the theme.
We are not intending to be overly strict, but, for example, simply providing an image with a name that fits the theme will not automatically qualify the image for the competition!
When it comes to judging, we will instruct all judges that the images have been reviewed and fit the theme.
If you are unsure whether your image meets the challenge theme, you can always upload it as soon as the competition is opened and request that it is reviewed in advance of the upload deadline.
The following themes with a little clarification have been chosen for next seasons challenge competitions:
PDIs
Song titles – an image that depicts a song title (This is the exception – 2 images allowed for each member, as the competition is run as the only competition of the evening) We will have the normal 1st run through where everyone gets a chance to guess the song title, so ones that could be guessed make it more fun!!
Mobile phone – an image that has been taken using a mobile phone. This can be processed as per normal rules (no AI please!), but the image must originate on a mobile phone.
Weather – an image that depicts an aspect of the weather
Two of a kind – the main element of the image should be 2 similar items
Water – an image where the main element is water, whether that is sea water, fresh water, tap water or bottle water, your choice
Prints
Within 10 miles of Alton (no – we won’t be looking at the GPS co-ordinates … we trust you!) The image should represent a sense of place i.e. an image of a robin on a fence could be taken anywhere, we are looking for images where the location / event / structure is recognisable as being a local location
Minimalism– something simple – a definition below:
“Minimalism in photography is the practice of taking pictures that are simple, uncluttered, and comprised of only essential forms, concepts, and features. It emphasizes sparseness and careful composition, shying away from overabundance of colour, patterns, or information. The focus is on a small number of objects, perhaps a single object, rather than multiple colours, subjects, or patterns. Minimalist photography helps to accentuate the main subject by eliminating the unwanted elements”
Portrait – Portrait photography captures the essence of the subject, revealing their personality and emotions through a single frame
Autumn – an image that emphasises the colours and feel of autumn
