More about what we do
Alton Camera Club endeavours to provide a wide range of activities to let you enjoy and extend your photographic abilities.
We provide a comprehensive mixed programme of lectures, practicals, competitions and other events. Our members get plenty of opportunities to experiment and learn new techniques.
Our evenings are extremely enjoyable and helpful, both to new and experienced. We help beginners to make a start in photography and more experienced workers are always available and ready to help if advice or practical instruction is needed. If any member needs help in any aspect of photography, committee and other members will be pleased to answer questions or arrange instruction, where possible.
There are opportunities to meet nationally and internationally acclaimed photographers and discuss with them their individual and personal approaches to their art.
No matter what your skill level or whatever style of photography interests you there will be much to entertain you within the club.
Our members are particularly encouraged to show off their work which is exhibited with fairness and equality. Appropriate and honest feedback is provided by accredited photographic judges. Competition is a key feature of club and we also compete against many other clubs in our region.
The Club offers a variety of field trips and social activities to its members. These have included day outings, evening walks in the summer months, short holidays and evenings at local hostelries.
The Club has held several exhibitions of the work of members. Recently, exhibitions of members' work have been held in Alton's Allen Gallery. Application for the use of the gallery is made as frequently as we are allowed; hopefully alternate years. We concentrate all our efforts on a display of the best of our work and, if submitted, work is included from every member. An official opening often takes place before the exhibition opens to the public.
Each season culminates with our annual Presentation Evening where members' families and friends enjoy a meal, see the best work of the season and receive trophies for the most worthy achievements.
